Working with families affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Asperger’s syndrome
This project was established so that families affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Asperger's syndrome (AS) would have someone to support them to speak up or speak on their behalf. We have 3 years funding from Children in Need from April 2008 to March 2011.

The Children & Young People's Advocate will:
  • Work with parents, and support them to get the help their children are entitled to
  • Listen to the difficulties parents are facing
  • Raise awareness of ASD & AS in the local area
  • Find out lots of useful information and reproduce it in a way that people can use
  • Work with existing parent support groups
The Children & Young People's Advocate will:
  • Listen to children with ASD & AS
  • Support children to have their say with the people who influence their lives by setting up a youth forum
  • Run Internet Explorers - a group for young people with Asperger’s Syndrome aged 11 – 16 who meet every Tuesday evening in our Internet Café
  • Find out lots of useful information on topics that are important to young people
